During April, the ‘Short Sharp Blow to the Head‘ series at Trade Gallery sees bubblebyte.org present Energia Della Danza, an online collaboration of artists working together to disrupt the online presence of Trade and its usual way of working. This transformation of the usually clean, white Trade website consists of revised webpage coding (html+css) by Paul Flannery, dancing backgrounds by Rhys Coren, looped sound files by Oliver Sutherland and a special spinning globe navigation bar image (.ico) by Laurel Schwulst.

Energia Della Danza pays homage to the early 90s TV show Dance Energy, part of the BBC’s DEF II programming directed solely at teenagers in the UK.

Manifesto for the hive mind is a manifesto for surfers and for everyone who has used the internet. It was written by me and all of us. It is a history of my thoughts and yours. It declares my ambitions and expresses your hopes. They are connected.

By conducting a series of searches through Google, all prefixes to declarations of intent, I put together a manifesto based on the auto-suggested results. The things that we are for are a combination of my search history and everybody else’s; as are the things we are against. The manifesto is a contamination of who Google thinks I am and who it believes you, the great algorithmic other, to be.

The manifesto is imposed on top of a playlist of YouTube videos intended to loosely illustrate each point. They are drawn from my ever growing list of favourites; those posted by people I follow around the web and the related videos from both.

Going to be showing a new piece – Manifesto for the hive mind – along with a host of others in an upcoming Speed Show organised by A. Bill Miller at Penn State Altoona.

The participating artists were given an assignment – create a web-based artwork in response to the question: what is internet?

The responses and submissions make up the exhibition. Each work is presented on its own work station within the lab. The lab becomes a space filled with participants in two roles: artists working individually within the larger connections of the Internet and exhibition visitors investigating artworks within the larger connections of the Internet. These two groups of participants take control of the campus computer lab work station and navigate, investigate, explore and consider what the Internet could/might/will be
